Let Me Tell You A Story…The Art Of The Pitch

I’m a storyteller. My mind is a jumble of plot points, character banter, and, OMG moments. Stories are made up of so many components carefully crafted to elicit an emotional response from a reader. I write all types of romance, so you can probably guess what kinds of emotions I strive to pull out of my readers. My books are a collection of all things steamy, suspenseful, and heart-warming, and I want my readers to feel everything my characters do. Not an easy feat. But when you strike the perfect balance between words and emotion, you’ve got gold. This is always my goal with every book I write. And it’s a skill I can apply to so many different business endeavors.

Case in point…my new app, Vorbii.

Vorbii is a unique app designed to help partners in a relationship reconnect. And who better to deliver on that than someone who gets paid to create rich and satisfying romantic relationships that stand the test of time???

But I don’t only write relationships that experience their fair share of trials and tribulations; I’ve lived one for the past seventeen years. I know good relationships, and I understand how important communication is between partners. There are so many things that distract us on a daily basis, things that take focus off of relationships and in effect, cause them to suffer – job, stress, activities, , family obligations, housework…read: MOUNTAINS OF LAUNDRY….

Being inundated with responsibility leads to stress. Stress leads to frustration and anger. And frustration and anger deteriorate a relationship, particularly if they’re kept bottled up. That only makes the feelings fester, and the slightest little trigger will unleash them like a can of Coke that’s been shaken and popped open.

No bueno.

But even though people might be able to relate to all of that, does it really make an impact? Does that explanation really drive home the need to communicate with your partner – to share your desires, to facilitate compromise in a fun and engaging way?

Probably not. It’s okay, you can say it. I’m not offended. It doesn’t really strike me, either, and I’m the one who designed it!

So now that I’m at the point where I need to start chatting up my app and how it can add bliss to your lives, I’m faced with yet another challenge…how do I make you care? You know what I’m saying is really important, but it’s not tangible. It is fluffy. There isn’t anything behind it for your emotions to grasp. And it doesn’t end with a super sexy bedroom scene.

Yet…

So I need to convince you in another way, one which will make you race to the app store on your iPhone to look for my app. In full disclosure, you won’t be able to find it quite yet, as it’s still under development. Oh, but it’s coming. SOON.

But back to the story…

Mark and Elisa had just celebrated their seventeenth anniversary. To any outsider, they had a picture-perfect life – a beautiful house, two engaging children, expensive cars, fulfilling careers…everything they could ever want. But deep inside their walls, they never really looked at each other. They never acknowledged the other’s presence. They barely brushed fingers at the dinner table. They never tried to steal a quick kiss while rushing down the hallways of their home. Their communications were reduced to handling logistics of life. They slept in the same bed at night but escaped to very different places while they lay next to one another. They’d forgotten why they were together in the first place, and they didn’t care to remember. They’d lost their connection, and their relationship withered, ending in divorce.

Not every story ends with a happily ever after, but it’s not too late to rewrite yours.

Connect again with Vorbii.

The Beginning. =)

The $25 Thumbnail…Pretty Cheap For Soft-Core

I’m OBSESSED with creating images for Unlikely Venture.  Gotta love the digital age!  One of my fabulous author friends (who is on the best-seller list for New Adult Contemporary on Amazon UK!!) sent me something she put together for one of her books and I decided I needed to create one for mine.  So the search began.  Here’s what I found out.  Images are ridiculously PRICEY!!!  I bought what is basically a THUMBNAIL for $25!

So many sites have cheesy images that I wouldn’t doctor and post if someone paid ME.  Then there are others that are borderline porn…need to steer clear of THAT as it’s not exactly my genre.

I think I struck a happy balance with this one, although Hubby doesn’t understand why I’m so impressed with my efforts.  “You put some text on a PICTURE for crying out loud!”

Yeah, but I did it MYSELF…and it’s for MY BOOK.  =)
